Peril and danger lurk throughout the battlefield as players combat the unknown risk of the new chaos of battle. Amazon.co.uk Call of Duty returns, and to many people’s surprise, it’s going back to World War II. While original series creators Infinity Ward brought the series into the modern day, developer Treyarch are setting out to make the definitive historical first-person shooter. The Soviet attack on Berlin features intense street battles | Take on the Japanese navy as you board a U.S. flying boat | World at War features the most realistic fire effects ever | The new ability to swim adds to both the story and multiplayer modes | The game is primarily set in the Pacific theatre and has a much more realistic, violent tone requiring less-linear game play than previous Call of Duty installments. You'll struggle to survive Japanese attacks without mastering new gaming skills, like swimming or how to use a flamethrower--a weapon that packs some punch in the fully destructable game world. Also featured is a campaign on the Eastern front, where you take control of a soldier in the Soviet Red Army during the attack on Berlin in the closing stages of the war. The game also includes the series’ first co-op mode, while the competitive multiplayer mode aims to build upon the achievements of Call of Duty 4 and add to the game’s longevity. Key Features - Dual campaigns: Fight in two very different World War II battles. Take on the Japanese Imperial army in the Pacific, and liberate Berlin as part of the Soviet Red Army.
- Grim realities: Experience the most bloody and realistic combat ever seen in the series, as you witness enemy atrocities and wield horrific new weapons such as the flamethrower.
- Job with benefits: Revamped competitive multiplayer mode features useable vehicles and an expanded perks system from Call of Duty 4.
- Brothers in arms: For the first time, a Call of Duty game features a four-player co-operative mode that’s playable online or via a split screen option on the same console.
- Modern graphics: The game uses an enhanced version of the Call of Duty 4 graphics engine, with wood that splinters realistically when shot and fires that spread organically.
About the Developer: Treyarch One of publisher Activision’s biggest internal studios, Treyarch have worked on many of the company’s best known titles, from the Spider-Man movie tie-ins and spin-offs to several of the Call of Duty sequels and the new James Bond game, Quantum of Solace.

Surprisingly fun April 13, 2009 K. F. Baker (Bristol, England) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Have played Call of Duty on the PC but thought I would give it a go on the Wii. I bought a 'gun' to go with it which made it feel more fun but the controls take a while to get used to. The graphics are good although they don't display correctly on a standard 4:3 tele. I would definately recommend this game.
The absolute perfect war game, tense, educational, and totally immersive January 30, 2009 Mr. A. G. Griffiths (Wivenhoe, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
War games have been my favourite genre ever since I played Medal of Honour Frontline on the Gamecube several years back. I have really enjoyed both the MOH and COD series of games over the years, but this one stands head and shoulders above them.
A superb mixture of education between the levels with the interesting WWII cut scenes, with excilerating gameplay, helped by a range of interesting weaponry (the flamethrowing experience is scarily fun!).
Graphics set a new precedent for third party developers, showing just what the machine is REALLY capable of.
I have to congratulate Activision/Treyarch for producing the very finest game I'v played for many years.
Just one final word of warning, if you have young children, I recommend you wait until there in bed. However, the realism of this game will also be an education for them in years to come, so do not dispose of it when completed. The on-line mode will retain your interest in the game until that time comes.
COD, fun thats slightly more grown up for the Wii December 4, 2008 Mr. K. Austin (UK) 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
As anyone can see this is not a game for your kid's! however for those nights in where you need to be challenged and want to go crazy shooting people drop your gun and pick up the Wii remote! This is a truely brilliant game and the best First person shooter so far on the Wii. Its not kiddy and as a result the game is a different kind of fun from your Mario Galaxy but still just as good. The controls are at times my only draw back on this game as your throw back grenade button is the 'plus button' and difficult to reach round when your firing, however, there challenging and need skill which makes the game so much more involving .
Internet is a must on this cause thats where it will last forwever, aslong as you have people to play with. Not only that but you can make your own personal game just for your mates which is a brilliant touch if you want to fight with only people you know. Unlocking guns and perks with experience points on the net only makes gives the game more purpose and its addictive nature will for sure wreck your degree and destroy your relationships. Its an awesome game and one that finally (baring Mario Galaxy/Kart, Wii sports and resident evil) that matches up to its price tag, which! is quite cheap in comparrison to the PS3 and Xbox.
one of the best first-person shooters on the wii November 27, 2008 Natalie (England) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
First of all, if you're relatively new to the FPS genre or have never picked up a game of that sort, there has never a better time to start, as WaW is here, and heck is it good. Even if you're a long time FPS fan do not worry, as this game will provide you a whole new experience and one you will not forget in the years to come.
This is my general overview on how I rate the game.
Graphics=8/10
Gameplay=10/10
Presentation=9.5/10
Lasting appeal=8.5/10
Sound=9/10
Overall=9/10
Whether you've never experienced FPS action before or you're a die-hard fan, you're sure to find something in this game.
Awesome addition for the Wii December 28, 2008 Russ Barnes (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I personally think this is a top drawer release and takes the Wii into another dimension away from the usual prettiness of using Mii characters for almost everything. The console may not have the power of the XBOX 360 but for me the gameplay and graphics are still smooth and accurate. Read the instructions around console settings as I found the gameplay at 60Hertz much improved away from the default 50.
One of the earlier reviews here said that the console reads the game disc all of the time and therefore could reduce the life of the console but I have to say that I have failed to notice much if any of a difference to any other game so far.
I bought this game with the Wii Zapper and the combination is excellent - in all I'm very impressed indeed...
